The AYL program was designed to provide Inuvialuit young people with an opportunity for personal growth and development through challenge and adventure in the form of expeditions.
The Community Programs branch is the community and organizational development arm of the department. The branch funds and provides hands-on support for the development of programs for Elders and youth.

The Ilisaqsivik Society in Clyde River, Nunavut, organizes this program, which offers students the opportunity to work for the Society full-time with a mentor.
Young people can learn important job skills through a mentoring program, and their peer helpers group gives a place to let off steam, with people their own age.
